The Cast of Skulduggery Pleasant Part One

The "Skulduggery Pleasant" series by Derek Landy, consisting of nine regular novels, one novella and a collection of short stories, is about a dead but still moving sorcerer named Skulduggery Pleasant who works as a detective in modern day Ireland and, together with his partner and apprentice Valkyrie Cain, helps to maintain the peace between the magical and mortal world and fights to stop anyone or anything that may wish to rule the world or destroy it.

This character list covers the first two books in the series, "Skulduggery Pleasant" and "Playing With Fire."

I did start a character list project like this when the series first began a while ago but eventually decided to put it on hold and wait until the series was finished so that I could properly assess which characters were important enough to deserve a drawing or not.

Then there were other factors such as designs of recurring characters in my head shifting around as I read the books, a need to correct mistakes (such as Ghastly's scars are ONLY on his face! The rest of his body is clear) and then there was just natural improvement in the level of my artistic skill over the years that made me want to go back to the beginning and produce something stronger in quality.

As a side note, I chose to draw some characters in their later book forms as that is more of an iconic form to me. I'll also add Valkyrie's reflection to the list when it develops a personality.

Now, so I don't get overwhelmed by this project, my approach is to read one of the books, draw the characters from that story, then read the next book and draw the characters from that and so on. When I have two books worth of character material then I'll post what I have so far. This does mean that it could be another month or two before Part Two goes up (seriously, there are like 10+ characters for each novel! D but I hope to make it worth it for my fellow Skulduggery Pleasant fans! Enjoy!
